BREAKING NEWS! BEN KATZ JOINS PoNY FOR UPCOMING USA ULTIMATE CLUB SEASON

Official Press Release:

In a shocking turn of events, current AUDL MVP Frontrunner, World Champion, and Camp Kinderland Hall of Fame Athlete Ben Katz has been signed to the Pride of New York (PoNY) USA Ultimate club team.  This is a marquee signing for PoNY, as the once contenders have been looking for a spark to light the competitive fires.  We can only presume that Katz will walk in as the top “dog” of the team.

What makes this so interesting is the sudden shift to New York based Ultimate from Katz, especially after so many years as the top player in Massachusetts.  Katz was a standout player at UMASS Amherst, Slow White, Garuda, Shot First Shower, and Ironside.  Could he be looking for a new challenge? New territory? Or maybe the Massachusetts competition was getting too weak.  Maybe he was just looking for superior pizza, bagels, sushi, public transportation, drivers, general quality of individuals, landmarks, entertainment, and hiking?

No matter the reason, we at Ben Katz Official Website are happy to see Katz move on to greener pastures- and we are sure his team mates are singing songs of joy and solidarity.

When asked for comment, Katz simply stated: “No comment.” He is the strong silent type.

Sholem Freiheit Emes!

My Next Chapter: Ben Katz

Ben Katz

This has been the most challenging several months in my professional, and personal life.  I love Boston, and I grew up in Somerville.  The people, the Ultimate, the Boilers I have been working so diligently on- All of these things mean a lot to me.  The kids all over Southie that I am a role model to.  The team mates that I may disappoint with my upcoming decision.  My family, who loves having me nearby to watch games.  I took all of these factors into my decision on where to play in the upcoming season.  At this time, I would like to announce that I will be joining the New York Empire for the 2018 AUDL Season.

There comes a time in a mans life where he has to expand.  Create.  Set out on his own.  Evolve.  Upgrade.  As I set out to find a place to play ultimate frisbee this season, I had two mandates.  Grow as a player, and win the AUDL championship and the USAU Triple Crown Series.  I know that my new teammates will welcome me with open arms.  I know that with time, my former Boston teammates, fans, and family will understand this decision.

It pains me to know that some will be upset or unhappy with my choice.  But I believe I am doing what I feel is the right thing at this point in my life and my playing career.

I will miss Boston and Montreal, and the role I have had in building these remarkable teams. I will forever cherish the relationships within the organizations — the friends and teammates that I went to war with on the field for years, and all the fans and people of the community. They have always had my back unconditionally, and I cannot be more grateful for what they have meant to my family and to me.

Thank you Boston; Thank you Montreal.  And Hello to New York City!!
